Utada Hikaru - This Is The One Review By Joey Cheah

Ok... At this post, I will comment on my idol's latest album, This Is The One by Utada Hikaru.

1. On and On
This track is a good starter for the album as it gives a smooth and fluent of music flow... It is not a bad song to begin with as it has an upbeat feeling to listener... This song can roughly give the idea of the whole album sounds like... However, the way she sings it does not suites the music at all... I prefer her to sing each lyrics clearly instead of crumbling up her words...

2. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI
I have to admit this track has the strong Hikki-Like singing style in it, which I like it... After an upbeat song, this song really suites to be the next track after On and On... This song gives listener a clear music and lyrics, especially the piano on the beginning... It gives a slow and soft feeling and when Utada sings it, the music actually does sync well with her song!!! This song actually gives a cheerful type of feeling to listener...

3. Apple and Cinnamon
On the whole album, I think this track is the best song... The music itself is superbly nice, where Utada place the piano pieces very good... I do not know how to explain until you listen to her piano pieces carefully... It actually goes very well with the beat of the song, and it even sync perfectly with her lyrics... The lyrics are simple, easily to be followed, and clear lyrics which gives a slightly catchy feeling to listeners... Even though this song does kind of repetative, but I feel this song does not dissapoint me at all... That is why I say this song is the best for the whole album...

4. Taking My Money Back
When this track is played, the front part actually is catchy and it does not sounds bad overall... Just that the way she sing it spoils the songs feeling... From my point of view, it is still a fine song but a little dissapointed compared to the previous track...

5. This One (Crying Like A Child)
This track is the second best song for the whole album... This track can consider as the only emo song for the entire album... Infact, in this song, it gives a kinda touching feeling to listener just by listening to the music... I think by the music itself can give the touching feelings... And of course, the lyrics is clear enough to caught listeners attention...

6. Automatic Part II
This track could consider to be the biggest pull down for the whole album... The music is those catchy type, but it does not sync with Utada's singing style at all... Plus, the lyrics is repitative in the chorus part... Maybe this track is not my type, that is why I say it is a big pull down... Eventually, I believe that this track does not really attract many listeners as it does not have a feeling of the music and lyrics on it... To me, the lyrics is totally too... Dissapointing???

7. Dirty Desire
Ok... This track is repetitive for the whole chorus... Among all tracks, this track has the most repetative in it... But, if you ignore the repetation, it is actually still a good... This track might be good to lift your feeling up when you are feeling bored or something... But, don't think of dirty desire when you are listening to this song... =.=

8. Poppin'
For this track, it has the strongest catchy and upbeat feeling... Infact, this song will be the best dance floor song for the entire album... Just by listening to the music, it actually does make you feel like moving your body along with the rhytem... Lol... I mean, it has the feeling to make someone move their bodies... But, I do not really like this song much because the way she sings it... It is just as if this song does not sang by Utada at all because it does not suites her style at all... However, I saw a few comments from other people, most of it say this song is the best... I just don't understand O.O...

9. Come Back To Me
Utada's only single track for this album... Actually, this song is well made with good lyrics... I really like this song much too... The only thing I dislike about this song is when Utada starts to rap... I'm not sure that is Utada is rapping or what, but it just does not sound so good about it...

10. Me Muero
The last track for the album... I got a feeling that this song is like those song used for "closing ceremony", which is really suited to be placed as the last track... Actually, this song is not bad at all... Very uplifting and refreshing... Anyway, the meaning of Me Muero is "I die"...

Well... After I review each and every tracks for the whole album, I still have to come out with a score for it... By giving out of 10 for the entire album, I think I will give:

7 out of 10 (Grade B-)

Actually, I am kind of dissapointed with this album... I think her Exodus is much more better than this album... Seriously... Maybe because most of the tracks in Exodus is full with Hikki style, which most Hikki fans will be looking for... But still, luckily Utada maintain her style for certain tracks in the entire album...
